[OpenMap Users] using tif images

hi all i downloaded some mrsid data and then converted it to regular tif images/data and was wondering if there was better documentation on how to load tifs and use them in OpenMap? the openmap properties file seems to be confusing and perhaps there is a better way to do it less programatically, though i am not sure. thanks all for your help!
