[OpenMap Users] invisible layers

Question:

Is there any way to make a layer "invisible", so that when
calling l.renderDataForProjection() on it, the layer would
just ignore the call? I tried setting l.setVisible(false),
but that won't do it.

I could also have the servlet not call "renderDataForProjection"
on that layer, but becasue of my application's design, some
way to just tell the layer to not show itself would be
simpler to implement.
