[OpenMap Users] ESRI Shapefiles with Lables

Alright OpenMappers,

I know that this topic has been asked, and discussed before, but I'm at a
loss as to how best to implement a ShapeLayer with Labels. I have extended
the OMGraphicHandlerLayer and created what I would call an AnnotationLayer
that renders points and labels fairly well but...

I need to implement a ShapeLayer (of polygon, polyline, or point data) with
labels. What is the best way to approach such a requirement? I think what
I would like to do is implement a version of the ShapeLayer class with the
LabeledOMGraphic geometries. Does this sound reasonable? Is there an
example of code or a resource that would be a good starting point? Any help
would be greatly appreciated!
