Yaakov
I too work for BAE SYSTEMS at Basildon UK.. I have been using OpenMap for some time with reasonable success. If you like I can talk to you about your requirements or we can get the company to set up something.
I think you have slightly missed the purpose of OpenMap though. This is how I see it:-
OpenMap has been put out there as open source so that developers with reasonable knowledge of java can use it for there application. There is a support contract that can be purchased, but BBN dont push it. So I see OpenMap as a very powerfull free! tool to use in a 6-12 month project, If you are suposed to recommend a GIS tool shoul'dnt it be one that just works and not one that needs developing over a period of time.
Can I respectfully point out that BBN although may hope that people buy support and license, Dont force you to and that Don and his team run a very busy free Email support to help developers on there way.
I dont think we can get to frustrated about this complex application.
If I can help please doont hesitate to talk further
Regards
Mark.

Hi,
Does anyone have any sample applications that would help illustrate
simple use of OpenMap API?
I am supposed to recommend a tool to a client for GIS and it seems like
OpenMap has the features to handle the requirements. What I am finding
myself extremely frustrated about is lack of any type of demo code,
detailed guide to the API, tutorials and such.
Learning curve is an issue. I understand that BBN's business model is
based on support of OpenMap, but I can't recommend to a client that they
spend $10,000 for a couple of days of training to figure out how hard or
easy it is to use OpenMap's APIs. I also cannot spend months figuring
out the API. It's like asking someone to learn JavaSpec, give them the
API docs and tell him to go learn it! It's a task no one would take with
ease. Tutorials are needed.
If anyone else out there are having the same frustrations, please tell
me so I now I am not missing something here. If, on the other hand, you
feel that I've missed something, please point it out to me ASAP. The
tool is free and would obviously save a lot of money in the end, so it
would be a shame to lose out on that.
Thank you.
