[OpenMap Users] Rhumb line distance calculation

Hi,
I've found that distance calculation for rhumb lines displays an error
and really calculates great circle distance. What is a problem with
calculation of rhumb line's distance? Because we know how to
draw rhumb line on map, we know all it's point so we could divide
rhumb line into several segments and calculate whole distance
as a sum of distances of shorter great cricle segments.
Is there something wrong in my idea? I'm not a specialist in that
domain. I don't think that I'm the fist person which ask about it.
Have you (users of OpenMap) never needed a rhumb line distance
calculated in your applications?
