Not with the .shp file, but there isn't an accompanying .dbf or .shx
file for those .shp files, which may be causing a problem.

No, but the .ssx file is an OpenMap file created to assist the
ShapeLayer. It wouldn't be used by another package.
The lack of a shx file is probably causing the problem with the other
toolkits. You can locate other world shape files on the web that
OpenMap and other programs can use.
