[OpenMap Users] Can OpenMap read ESRI Grid Files?

Can OpenMap read in ESRI Grid files
(http://gdal.velocet.ca/projects/aigrid/aigrid_format.html) or do the files
have to be converted into another format for OpenMap to read?

I have a client that is interesting adding the capability of importing a
climatological product created by NCDC, "Global Land Precipitation Monthly
Statistics,1975-1998."
