Hi Simon,

did you have checked the geotools2 from www.geotools.org. It looks like,
that they have an implementation of the OGC Coordinate Transformation
Services in Java. But I don't know, if this fits our needs.

Subject: RE: [OpenMap Users] coord transformation

Steffen,
I am working on a similar problem, but I am using Swedish coordinate
systems, namely
        RT90 (Rikets Koordinatsystem 1990)
You mention 'Gauss Kruger' as your coordinate system, but to my knowledge
Gauss Kruger is a Projection more commonly known as Transverse Mercator.
RT90 (in all it's forms) uses the Transverse Mercator (or Gauss Kruger)
projection with the Bessel 1841 Ellipsoid. The combination of the Transverse
Metcator Projection and the Bessel 1841 Ellipsoid forms the Datum used with
the RT90 coordinate system.
OpenMap supports the standard Mercator projection which is a Cylindrical
projection where the cylinder is wrapped around the equator (see
com.bbn.openmap.proj.Mercator). However the Transverse Mercator projection,
again a cylindrical projection, but the cylinder is wrapped around the poles
rather that the equator. Transverse Mercator does not seem to be supported
within OpenMap.
I am working on some coordinate transformation algorithms, and experimenting
with other open source API's to try and achieve the conversion and
subsequently the correct projection between WGS84 and Easting Nothings for
European based coordinate systems (all plugging into OpenMap). I seem to
have the transformation working (to a point) but I believe I am missing the
Transverse Mercator projection.
I'm sorry I do not have any answers for you, but I believe that we are in
the same position, Ideally we need a good solid implementation of the
opengis.org coordinate transformation services specification, and a wider
range of projections within OpenMap. Possibly we can collaborate together,
and put out a call for any other """OpenMappers!""" operating in Europe that
have a need for such functionality.
Regards
Simon

Subject: [OpenMap Users] coord transformation

Hi all,
I need to transform WGS84 LatLon coordinates into e.g. the german metric
coordinate system 'Gauss Krueger'. Has anybody an idea on how to do that?
All I've found was the UTMPoint to transform LatLon's into metric
coordinates.
