Mathieu,
Attached is code for a scale layer. It draws a small indicator in the lower
right corner with the distance in kilometers. Just add an instance of it to
your mapbean.
You will need to modify line 82 as follows:
dist = ((float)(180.0/Math.PI)) * 60.0f * (1.0f/0.53989f);
