I think this stuff may help you ...

I made this first because I wanted to plot ideal curves joining
defined points. Then, they needed to plot special symbols on these lines ...
And later, I added the text !
(Spent some time too to comment and make it clear, that's the reason for delaying the answer)

Here is my package hierarchy :
fr.free.lepicier.awt => graphic utilities, relies only on java.awt, and the ShapeDecorator class ...
fr.free.lepicier.openmap.layer => contains a test version of DemoLayer, change the path in your property file.
fr.free.lepicier.openmap.omGraphics => here are the new graphics, OMSpline and co.
fr.free.lepicier.openmap.omGraphics.labeled
fr.free.lepicier.openmap.omGraphics.meteo => special graphics for met charts
fr.free.lepicier.openmap.tools.drawing => support for editing the new graphics
