MapInfo shape files plotting data

I was hopping someone could help me out with a problem. I am new to GIS
space so bare with me.

I have a some mapinfo tab files that contain
1. map of the us = states.tab
2. cities in the us = cities.tab
3. tower location points = tower.tab

I was not sure what the best way to plot this using openmap. But, I
exported each file to a shape file from mapinfo
Then we I try to display the shapefile in the openmap application, the
states shape works fine, but the city and tower files which
exported as cities_point, tower_point files do not display.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong. I feel like I may be missing some
concepts.

Any help would be much appreciated.
