imageServer performance

Hi,

Is there anybody that made some performance analysis or benchmarking of the
ImageServer Class ?

For example for displaying the worl map mulitple times, i have results
between 2,5 and 5 seconds for one image (800*600) on a pentium III 500 mhz
(with only one layer (ShapeLayer)). That seems very very slow for a web
application...

Any idea ? Optimization tips ??
