We are pleased to announce that OpenMap 4.5 has been released, and is available
on the website (http://openmap.bbn.com). The features of the new release are
available in the ChangeLog in the package, and were also outlined in the
pre-release announcement last week
(http://openmap.bbn.com/mailArchives/openmap-users/2002-05/0888.html).
There are a couple of other new things we'd like to call attention to as well.
First, the website now has a 'Who's using OpenMap?' page, which contains links,
screenshots and information about how OpenMap is being used. We'd like to keep
adding entries to this page, so please keep giving us information about your
program - with as much information as you'd like - so your efforts can be
included in the display.
We've also started a Bugzilla page for OpenMap for bug reporting and tracking
(http://openmap.bbn.com/bugzilla). We're in the process of populating it with
past bug reports, but please feel free to use the system to suggest enhancements
and feature requests as well. We hope that this system will not only help us
track outstanding bugs, but will also provide a place where people want to
contribute can find out what other users need.
Lastly, this release includes code developed by BBN Technologies that allows
OpenMap to be used as a .NET Web Service. There is a demonstration page for
these components at http://winmap.bbn.com/OpenMapWeb/webmap.aspx, and the
source code is in the OpenMap package under openmap/iis. In order to use these
components, you must have the IIS web server, the .NET framework and a Java 2
JRE installed on your Windows system. This is an exciting addition to OpenMap,
providing a dynamic HTML client and/or an interface to access and control maps
through your .NET application.
As always feedback is always welcome! Thanks for your patience with this
release, and we hope the wait was worth it.
