about buffer

hi,
i am a new one in this group
i know there is method as: generateWidePoly and generateWideLine in the
DrawUtil class, but i do not know how can i use these methods? and if i can
use these method to get the buffer polygon?
Maybe it is just the substitute of buffer, who can give me a hint?
