I get the file from this address
http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/eco/cdroms/reynolds/reynolds/source/arcview_grid/world_shape/
but I also found it from other sites and had the same error.
I thougt all shape files were compatible

Hi Olivier,
I got the same error you did with your file. Do you know where the
shape file came from? The shape type should be somewhere between 0-31.
I haven't played around with your file any more than trying to run
OpenMap code on it, so I don't know if there was some byte
swapping/unpacking error/ftp transfer mixup thing going on with it.
