OpenMap and PostGis

Hello,
I would like to know if anyone is working or know of a Layer or a PlugIn for a
PostGis database (http://postgis.refractions.net/). PostGis is an open source
spatial database based on PostgreSQL: it stores each shape in a row of the DB.
It seems to me that it could solve many problems with regular shapefiles, like
the fact that shapefiles are usually too coarse-grained for many applications.
