Thanks for the update, I'll add the same change into the codebase.
I think that behavior is kind of weird, too, but the InputReaders seem
to be more flexible than their names suggest. I've noticed that under
certain conditions, certain readers seem to be able to read input that
you would think would be handled by other readers. My guess is that
Java is doing the right thing with the input streams underneath the
covers.
