repaint has no effect

Hi all,
I have implemented a rightclick-menu to add layers. When I do
'map.add(layer)', it does not repaint itself. If I force repaint by hiding
the window and
then show it, it repaints.

I have tried calling map.repaint(), and repaint on the panel it is in, with
no success.
Removing layers works fine.

Any ideas ?
