Hi Karl,
I don't think there is a way around it, the way that the code is
written. Back when that layer was written, we had an isolationist
attitude toward layers (they were on their own).
Brings up a good point, though, for adding a mechanism for passing
problem messages to specific listeners that might be able to do
something about it.
