SpatialIndex Errors

I am generating SpatialIndex files for some shape files that I have using
the createIndex method. For some of the shapes, I am seeing messages on the
console window about unknown shape types, which, inevitably, keeps the shape
file from displaying in OpenMap.

The problem is, I don't see any way for my code to know if one of these
errors has occurred. The spatial index class is handling it and does not
have a flag or anything to let me know if it worked correctly or not.

Do you know of a way around this?
