I primarily use Mac OSX, which is a java 1.3 runtime. The OpenMap team
also uses Solaris and RedHat linux, and we pretty much stick to Java 1.3
during development. We have access to other lessor jdk versions, of
course, and occasionally test to them. Also, we build and test on
different Windows platforms before a release. There are other groups
within our department that integrate OpenMap into their applications
with Windows as their development platform.

OpenMap runs really well on 1.4, because it benefits from the Swing
overhaul. We haven't created any new classes that rely on new 1.4
classes, like the new io and image classes. We'll wait until 1.4
becomes the "common" installation before updating OpenMap classes to
rely on 1.4-specific components.
