OpenMap - ActiveX/DCOM/COM

Has anyone integrated OpenMap with ActiveX? How about bridging other
Java classes to ActiveX? I'm trying to get more information on what it
would take to create an ActiveX wrapper around OpenMap components in
order to make them accessible via Visual Basic. Any info, histories,
anecdotes are welcome.
