Projection Scale constraints.

Hello:
I'm attempting to display very large image files ( 100 Megs in
flat RGB space ). Since these are so large and ungainly, I'd like
to be able to pre-process them to more reasonable sizes before
display. And it strikes me that powers of 2 might be a nice way to
go since it's about what users like to do, and it makes the
sub-sampling math a bit faster. However as Openmap operates out of
the box, it appears to allow any scale to be used in the projection.
Which means that in order to display I have to do additional
super/subsampling. I was wondering if there was a way that I could
constrain openmap's projection such that it only used given scales. (
I could pass in a list for example, or maybe some sort of class
which defines a formula and returns the nearest "nice" scale ). Is
there any way to do this?
