There was some crosstalk between the mailing lists some time ago - I
think that discussion is on the mailing list archives.

GeoTools is targeted for applet map rendering, and is based on Java
1.1. It runs in pretty much any browser. The architecture is
different, too, but I can't really provide any specifics.

I think the general consensus was that GeoTools has better examples, and
OpenMap has better documentation. :) I'm not sure how much work James
has done to update his library since this was all discussed.

James and I had discussed ways to make the packages more interoperable,
but hadn't reached any targets. I think the OGC standards for map
images (WMS) and vector graphics (GML) will eventually be the first
hookup.
