Retrieving data from inside Jar/Zip files

Hi,
I'm currently investigating how to store a subset of VPF data in a zip/jar
file to allow me to distribute it to the my users more simply.
>From experimenting with the code, there appears to be problems with java
being more fussy about how the pathnames are formed when reading from a jar.

Has anybody experimenting with Zipping up VPF data for use directly from
OpenMap? If so, do they have any "golden nuggets" to share on how they did
this?
