I went through a failed Java printing experiment last year. What I
found was that we could not get any Java-based printing application
to generate anything other than 72-dpi images on 8 1/2 x 11 inch
page, so output was never acceptable. I think later I heard that this
was a limitation in the Java2 printing API that may be fixed in
release 1.4.
If I'm wrong about this, I'd love to know how to print a 300 dpi
image on a letter size page.
