how to use the OpenMapApplet to display a shape file?

Dear all

I want to use the OpenMapApplet to display a shape file. Has anybody ever tested it?
I have modified the openmap.properties and openmap.jar, but the OpenMapApplet still can
not locate and get the shape file, what should I do?
I am a newbie in this area. Any information or idea is highly appreciated.
